Skipness Castle is like a square tower house with a walled courtyard to the southwest of it today.
Skipness Castle History
However, the castle has a complicated history, as it was extended over the years. Only fragments of the ancient hall survive in the north wall of the courtyard, through which a gateway was made when the castle became a farm.
Skipness was probably built by the MacDonald Lords of the Isles but in 1463 ownership passed to the Campbells. In 1898 the laird and the process of restoration commenced removing the farm buildings.
Skipness Castle is located near Skipness, in the Kintyre peninsula.
