Bodiam Castle History
Bodiam is a fairytale castle and stands as designed in 1385, surrounded by a wide moat.
It was built as a fortress to block raids across Sussex by the French but was also the home of a knight, Sir Edward Dalyngrigge.
The interior is a ruin but the outside walls and towers stand almost intact and you can climb one of the towers and walk along the battlements.
Bodiam Castle was lived in for 250 years and then left to decay for three centuries until bought in 1916 by Lord Curzon, who restored it and gave it to the National Trust in 1952.

The castle is located in Bodiam village in East Sussex, just a few kilometers off the main A21 London to Hastings road.
