Thirlestane Castle History
One of the finest castles in Scotland, Thirlestane is a confection of turrets, dormers, and balustrades with random rubble walls dressed with sandstone.
The oldest part of the castle dates from 1590, but it was remodeled in the 1670s and 1840s, creating a T-shaped pile.
The castle has always been the property of the Maitland family, including the Earls of Lauderdale. It was placed in the care of the Trust in 1984.
Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed here in November 1745.
Thirlestane Castle is open for visits, a ticket for an adult costs around £10.00
